Adding hosted email forwarders

Last Updated: September 28, 2023

Mail for a domain name can only be directed to one place. This means you cannot use both free email forwarding and hosted email, because the DNS records for each of them will conflict. However, you can set up forwarding services directly through your hosting plan. Not only does this bypass the problem, but it also keeps your email management in one easy place.

To set up and manage forwards for hosted email, follow these steps:

  1. Log into cPanel.
  2. Click Forwarders under the Mail section.
  3. Click the Add Forwarder button.
  4. Enter the part before the @ symbol in the Address to Forward field.
  5. Select the right domain name from the drop-down menu.
  6. Enter the address you want it to forward to in Forward to email address.
  7. Click the Add Forwarder button.

Note: If you tried to add free forwarding before, your DNS records might be incorrect. You will need to change them back to the hosted email MX records.
